I went to Interaxes at the end of 2005 to participate in the design and implementation of a linux distribution for Tierra Urbana. This was a part time job.

At the time, Tierra Urbana was looking to participate in an experimental program with INFONAVIT, a government institution that provides housing credit to workers in Mexico. The program consisted in building economic houses for workers that would include high speed internet and computers. That would allow working-class families, and specially their children, to have contact with high technology, in hope that with time they would become programmers and computer technicians.

For Tierra Urbana, the cost of providing a commercial OS with the computers was too high, and decided to use a linux distribution adjusted for this purpose. Interaxes was comissioned to build this system.

The requirements were to build a Linux Distribution that would work flawlessly on hardware provided by a chinese manufacturer. The OS would be installed in México, not in the factory. The system had to be easy to use for people that had never used computers, and also include tools and educational games to help kids in school.

I finished the first version by april 2006, based on Ubuntu 5.10. The installation was made in a serial production line using open source software and networking gear.

After the first computers were delivered to the final users, some issues were corrected and the service technicians used the installation line for updating the machines in site.

I also worked on the network infrastructure, updating and monitoring the shared hosting servers, wich is the main service Interaxes offers.

I left Interaxes for a network operator position in Naranya
